I want to know why a dry explanation in #German over a deep dark technobeat works so well?
Does it mean that I can make a really long and boring explanation of a #Minecraft #CreateMod contraption in #Flemish and use it as lyrics for a #techno song?

Market in the Square (1566) by Flemish painter Joachim Beuckelaer (1533-1574). He lived and worked in Antwerp, so the painting likely depicts the Antwerp market square.

Portrait of a Lady - with a dog - by Catharina van Hemessen c. 1528–after 1587. She is the earliest known female #Flemish painter whose work can be clearly verified as hers.
(The National Gallery, London)
January 16 - the birthday of Lucas Achtschellinck (1626-1699) - a #Flemish landscape painter, counted among the landscape painters active in #Brussels referred to as the School of Painters of the Sonian Forest who all shared an interest in depicting scenes set in the Sonian Forest, which is located near Brussels.
First time participating in the #30DayMapChallenge .
Topic: "How are charging points for electric vehicles distributed in the #Flemish region?"
In Europe, the Netherlands and Germany are the front-runners in terms of total numbers of EV chargers.

@being Yes, I know, especially younger people have extremely Americanised ideas of #grammar. I am horrified! My #Dutch teacher told me that the Dutch have also begun simplifying their reflexive pronouns. So they say things like "Ik heb de tafel gekocht. Hij (!) is leuk." Although "tafel" is grammatically feminine. I told a #Flemish friend that I thought this was utter nonsense, and she said that the Belgians would still use "ze" in this case. OK, I have decided to speak Flemish... ;-)
If you like anti-fascist hard punk, and especially if you speak #Flemish, #Dutch or #German (in increasing order of difficulty) and can figure out Afrikaans lyrics - then you have got to listen to #fokofpolisiekar . And if you need me to translate anything with maximum retention or deeper poetic meaning, I'll gladly oblige.

Still-Life with Crayfish, Oysters, and Fruit (late 1600s or early 1700s) by a follower of #Flemish painter Cornelis de Heem (1631–1695).
The porcelain bowl in this painting most likely came from China. Political turbulence in China effectively eliminated ceramic imports to the West by the 1640s, so the bowl would have been considered at least as valuable as the gold object on the table.
May 19 - the birthday of Flemish painter Jacob Jordaens (1593-1678). He was a prolific artist who created biblical, mythological, and allegorical compositions, genre scenes, landscapes, illustrations of Flemish sayings, and portraits. As well as being a successful painter, he was a prominent designer of tapestries and prints.

Birth Month Flower: January, Carnations (#7 of a series)
Man Holds Carnation (1578) [Source: British Museum]
Flemish engraving on paper.
The description doesn't say so, but this appears to be a betrothal portrait. It's interesting that there were also carnations on the Jewish marriage contract (see Ketubah in post above). So I guess that some of the Language of Flowers crosses several cultures.

#OTD Jan #Brueghel the Elder, #Flemish #Flower #Painter & #Landscape #Artist, died.
He believed flowers should be painted Alla Prima (w/ live specimens) & he was among the 1st to paint #Garland-s for religious figures.
A friend of #Rubens, Jan's nicknames of "#Velvet" or "#Flower" referred to his delicate brushwork.
He wrote Cardinal Federico Borromeo about his #Painting writing,
"Your excellency must judge for himself [whether] the flowers... surpass #Gold &
#Jewels."
