Have a couple of questions regarding a software project and how to better publish and distribute it.

Wrote a lot of code in #RustLang, which is released for some time now. (gitlab.freedesktop.org/AdeptVe) I can build the binary and run it.

But I don't know, how to handle the "large" program files. 20MiB is not much. But stored in a repository, it clogs up the pipelines.
The repository grew to a size of more than 100MiB.

Shrinking gave a size of a bit more than 1MiB.

@Recherchebuero_Schaumburg was für eine quatschige Antwort da von #Bitkom bzgl. #Digitalisierung verlangsamen.

Ugh, Python got over 500 #GSoC applications this year and so many of them are absolutely trash, didn't follow any of the instructions. Most years about half of our applications are like this. But usually we have a lot fewer applicants and the submissions were blank files not plausible AI nonsense.

So I'm stuck reading hundreds of incredibly low quality nonsensical submissions today in hopes to take some workload off my other unpaid volunteer mentors. This is not the volunteer gig I signed up for 15 years ago when it was mostly working with new contributors and not their AI chatbots and I'm grumpy.

🇲🇽 Lessons from open source in the Mexican government
@LWN

「 It is surprising to many who think of Mexico as a manufacturing and assembly nation that the country does actually produce a lot of technology, he said. Much of what was being produced within the government, though, was being siphoned off by the private sector; more recently, that is changing, so that the government can package and even sell its IT development 」

FreeDOS 1.4 is here

MS-DOS was closed source for the longest time. In 1994, Jim Hall decided to create an open source alternative: FreeDOS. It has matured to version 1.4.

🦀 Rust Is Looking For Your Feedback To Help Guide Its Future
@phoronix

「 The Rust Vision Survey announced today has goals of working to understand where Rust is at today and to identify high-level areas where the project should be going as they move forward. It's a non-goal to figure out specific designs or feature recommendations but they are looking at higher-level aspects as they look at Rust moving into the future 」
