Jason E Miller<p>Call out to anyone who writes technical docs for the web (e.g., for students) -- what are the benefits of book down relative to pretex? I've written up a big doc in pretex, but its syntax is a PITA. Can I do about the same thing with book down? <a href="https://c.im/tags/bookdown" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookdown</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/pretex" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pretex</span></a></p>
Henrik Sørlie<p>I (think I) would like to write my article based <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/PhD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PhD</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/thesis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>thesis</span></a> in <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/rstudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rstudio</span></a>. The finished articles are written with <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/RMarkdown" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RMarkdown</span></a> and <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/papaja" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>papaja</span></a>, so I’m sort of used to the format, but now I need to write a compilation or synopsis. I’ve heard of the <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/bookdown" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookdown</span></a> package, but I’m also looking at finally going <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/quarto" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>quarto</span></a>. Any advice? Packages, or tips and tricks? <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/rstats" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rstats</span></a></p>
Dorothy Bishop<p>I'd like to include alttext for figures in an online bookdown book that I'm updating, written in Rmd. Can anyone help?<br> I thought I could do this with syntax like this: {r weightplot-1,echo=FALSE, include=TRUE,message=FALSE, warnings=FALSE, fig.cap="mycaption",alt="myalttext",out.width="75%"} but although that runs, I can't see the alttext in the resulting html. <br><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/alttext" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>alttext</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/bookdown" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookdown</span></a></p>

phenolology 🐢<p>I would pay all my money for someone else to make my tables look nice and always compile to a nice pdf.</p><p><a href="https://scholar.social/tags/rstats" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rstats</span></a> <a href="https://scholar.social/tags/bookdown" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookdown</span></a></p>
Dennis<p>Phew, it was a lot of tinkering, but my <a href="https://ruhr.social/tags/flowchart" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>flowchart</span></a>|s for my <a href="https://ruhr.social/tags/thesis" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>thesis</span></a> came out really nice. Made with the <a href="https://ruhr.social/tags/rstats" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>rstats</span></a> library <a href="https://ruhr.social/tags/DiagrammeR" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DiagrammeR</span></a> and <a href="https://ruhr.social/tags/graphviz" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>graphviz</span></a> and rendered with <a href="https://ruhr.social/tags/knitr" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>knitr</span></a>, <a href="https://ruhr.social/tags/bookdown" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>bookdown</span></a> and <a href="https://ruhr.social/tags/latex" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>latex</span></a> via <a href="https://ruhr.social/tags/rstudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>rstudio</span></a> . </p><p>The <a href="https://ruhr.social/tags/mermaid" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>mermaid</span></a> integration is just broken for latex-based pdfs, which is sad because mermaid is just really nice with its easy syntax. graphviz has at least more power and is embeddable as a vector pdf file.</p>
