Saw an interesting movie today. @NarrelleMHarris and I headed to Cinema Nova for The Last Showgirl, starring Pamela Anderson. Interesting drama about a Vegas performer whose old-fashioned show is closing down after almost four decades.
Intriguing how ambiguously it paints her character... Was she admirable for following her art, or bad for raising a young daughter without help while performing in such a slight production (the estranged daughter certainly thinks so)? And what will happen to her now? Jamie Lee Curtis is also in it, playing a returned showgirl whose life has fallen apart.
Anyway it's a low-key but interesting movie, raises questions about following your art vs taking responsibility for those around you. Thought-provoking.
