While I don'see myself playing 0AD on a mobile device anytime soon, I think it's really cool that such a thing is actually possible. Imagine if/when this device can connect to an external monitor!

@weirdtreething @cas I've never posted a picture of myself on this account, but this is important.
Looks like my front sensor has 3 dead pixels. Acceptable.
My #OnePlus6T just gained new life with the battery from @iFixit. After a failed attempt to buy it of Amazon from a random Chinese seller (the true capacity was 70%), decided to go an buy it from @iFixit.
This battery as 98% capacity and it as given been working as expected.
Price diference? 4€. Not counting shipping.
Next time you need a replacement part, give @iFixit a visit.
Smartphone Runs Home Server - It’s one of the great tragedies of our technological era. Smartphones that feature... - https://hackaday.com/2024/12/09/smartphone-runs-home-server/ #batterymanagementsystem #postmarketos #phonehacks #oneplus6t #android #docker #server #linux
IT WORKED - finally I'M IN!!!!
Installing the prebuilt images with fastboot failed, but resorting to pmbootstrap worked - so now I have a #oneplus6T phone with #postmarketos and #plasmamobile 6 on it.
I did order a simcard for it, but I haven't gotten that yet, so testing calls and sms must wait a few days.
How ever lots of things works - I can browse the internet with angelfish, look at photos, connect to bluetooth devices, record sound, play music, use KDE Connect, set alarms and use timers, view PDFs, use the shell and more ...
i can't use #tokodon (it freezes when trying to log in), so this is posted from my laptop, and my #nextcloud account configured in the plasmamobile settings does not work - no contacts or calendar events that way, or browsing files for that matter. #Okular shows a meaningful error message regarding files: webdavs:// fails. Not sure why #akonadi fails.
#fossphone #linuxphone - the future looks bright :)
Slowly working on getting #postmarketos on my #oneplus6t. First step is to get it up to date for the sake of the firmware, which leads to downloading images from the default #oxygenos - and what a horror :o Not having lived in googleland for years, it is shocking how awfull using chrome and google search is ... Can't wait to turn it into a #linux #fossphone #linux #foss #plasmamobile!
@alextecplayz @cassidy Is there a single decent video editor on Android?
- For simple edits, I use [Footage](https://flathub.org/apps/io.gitlab.adhami3310.Footage), which is decent enough (mostly for editing Smash clips pulled from my Switch) on #LinuxMobile
- GNOME Maps for sure is worse than #OrganicMaps, but I don't use my #OnePlus6T on #GnomeMobile as a daily driver yet.
- [Dialect](https://dialectapp.org) works about as well as #LibreTranslate (the best FOSS app I've used on Android)
While i am working on $dayjob i can start a compilation of some changes i made to #BitRitter over the past days.
Compiling it on my phone, to get the full experience, takes around 10-15 minutes in `--release` mode on my #OnePlus6t, so it can run while i do my normal work.
No bug changes, just cleaning up deprecated widgets and stuff.
My #OnePlus6t is slowly losing battery capacity that i do not get a workday of battery. Thinking of using it as my development device for #LinuxMobile.
Which phone would have mainline support earlier?
Thinking about #Fairphone 5, #SHIFT6mq. Any phone i am mising. Sadly camera is a must-have for me, so i guess i need to stay on Android for some time?
@jakehamilton @vlinkz burn it down, start anew is my favorite solution to technical debt.
Joined the Forgejo, Matrix, & Discourse (still waiting on the activation email from Discourse tho)
No experience with cross-compilation yet, but I've been meaning to setup remote builds so I can build packages for my #OnePlus6T running #MobileNixOS on a beefier x86_64 machine.
One day, I will actually install #LineageOS on my #OnePlus6T. It's the backup I have to make that's holding me back. #DeGoogle #Google #Android #Smartphones
Turns out GPS was working on my #postmarketOS #oneplus6t with @phosh all this time. I just had to turn it on. Whoops.
I require the wisdom of the hivemind in this particular issue:
I have two used OnePlus 6T. One purchased in Germany, the other purchased in Australia.
The australian device will not make or receive calls in Germany. The call setup fails after about 20 seconds. There is no dialtone. Texts and data work fine. I tried genuine factory images spanning Android versions 9 to 11 and multiple alternative operating systems including LineageOS, postmarketOS and Mobian. I also tried two different SIM cards from different providers. The device can't call or be called.
As far as I can tell there are no regional differences in both hard- and software. Does anyone have an idea what could be going on here?
Did anybody get the microphones of their #pinebuds running (so that you speak into the pinebuds on a call, not into your phones microphones)? did not work for me on the #librem5 and i wonder if its the phone or the buds. now that i am running #pmos on a #oneplus6t and calls audio is in general a bit more tricky here;) @PINE64 #linuxmobile
This is my first week attempting to use @postmarketOS on OnePlus 6T as my daily driver. Yesterday was my first full day with the device and it's fantastic! I was running errands, taking meetings out, and using the phone as my primary communicator.
For context, (and this is going to sound brutal, but it's the truth) I've been using a Librem 5 on PureOS as my daily driver since February, so my expectations are pretty low at this point.
In no particular order, here are my main observations so far.
This thing is fast! So responsive and slick. Again, I am comparing it to Librem 5, not iPhone. That said, @phosh performs so well on this device, it really feels like THIS is how it is supposed to work. (This is an aside, but it's a real shame how stuck and abandoned Phosh is on Librem 5, when that was the device it was originally made for.)
Cellular phone calls on my carrier (AT&T) require VoLTE, so I am using this hack (a) (b) to enable voice calls. Some people have reported issues with call audio; I've only noticed call audio loss very occasionally, and they are resolved for me by toggling the modem on and off.
Battery life is good, but not great. I was using the phone pretty heavily yesterday and I needed to top up the battery once in the afternoon. I'm interested to see how it fares on a day when it spends most of the time in my pocket.
Do not allow the device to suspend! Unlike the Librem 5, it won't automatically wake up for calls or SMS messages. And very much like the Librem 5, you won't receive any other notifications while it's asleep.
I'm using Fractal / Matrix / iMessage bridging (c) for the majority of my instant messaging needs. This works great, but the notification integration kind of sucks.
Core notification support appears to be handled by feedbackd (d) - thanks @agx! - which works really well. However, there's no obvious way to link general Freedesktop/libnotify notifications (e) to a feedbackd event.
The practical effect of this is that messages coming in over Fractal are received immediately BUT with no visual, audible, or haptic cues to indicate that they've arrived.
I'm solving this problem right now with a horrible little Python script that watches for Fractal notifications on dbus, and triggers a message-new-instant
event when it sees them.
This is working for me right now, and I'm happy to share the code if anyone wants to see it. But I'm sure it's not how things are supposed to work. I would love to hear from the developers on what the "right" solution is supposed to be here.
I'll have more thoughts to share over time, but I'll wrap it up for now. At this point I'm really pushing the limits of what a "microblog" entry should look like.
