The other thing that kept my Facebook account open all these years: I had created apps for clients in the developer area, and Facebook creepily forces you to have a personal account to use their API.
These many years later, I no longer work with the Facebook API, because I steer every client away from using it. If they insist, they have to create the app with their own account and provide me the info.
So yeah, once more with feeling, BYE META, YOU SUCK.
I haven't used Facebook in about 10 years. I initially kept my account alive because I stupidly thought people there might care I was gone and want to contact me. Spoiler alert: they pretty much didn't.
Anyway, I've tried to delete it many, many times, and it's always given me a "temporary error." On a hunch today, I went in and deleted some old apps from the developer area, tried again, and lo and behold, account deleted.
So BYE AGAIN META, YOU SUCK.
I believe today is the day that @meljoann is saying BYE to Meta. 
I wish I'd been around a little more in recent days to hype it some more and get others on board but it's never too late!
