#biblio #livresanciens #typographie #histoireduLivre #rare #books #oldbooks #library

Hello from Dublin!

Yesterday we went to Marsh’s Library, a reference library with some of the oldest printed books in the world! We couldn’t touch the books, but photos were allowed.

This library was also caught in the crosshairs of the rebellion in 1916, so some of the books have bullet holes in them (none shown).

Such a cool place! 😍

Other things we did:
-Dublin Castle
-St. Patrick’s Cathedral
-Various gardens
-Tasty food

I recently noticed that shipments of real physical books are around 45 usd.

I understand it's more expensive but how on earth it could rise from around 2x usd in 2013 unearthlytales.com/blog/the-co to around 45 usd in 2024

It's 2x increase. I see situations where shipment costs 2 books and you have to pay it multiple times if it comes from various bookstores.

Could anybody explain me how it's possible that international AGD or electronics goods like washing machines or laptops shipments are around as expensive as the 0.5kg books?

For me it's true mystery because most book orders are quite slow. I have had orders which even up to 3 months. 1 months is very often, too and logistically you could actually "optimize" easily it over time

"Whenever you see a chimney you know there is a furnace beneath it, and when smoke and fire come out of its top you know there is a fire in the furnace. Well, there are many places on the World where fire and smoke come out of the ground as if through a chimney from a fiery furnace. These places are called volcanoes."
